HUNZA PAKISTAN

HUNZA VALLEY

Do you want to visit heaven on earth? Let me help you visit the most beautiful place on earth, which is present in Pakistan, named Hunza. Hunza, a formerly princely state, is located in the northern areas of the Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. It is a mountainous valley which is famous for its snow-capped and rough mountains and situated at an elevation of 2,438 meters. Hunza is famous for its fruit trees that light up the valleys in hues of pink, red, and white each spring. Here are some places everybody should visit who wants to touch the heaven.

Attabad lake

This dazzling mountain lake was formed after a landslide in an Attabad village of Hunza valley on 4th January 2010, which is almost 760km from Islamabad. The landslide disrupted the flow of the Hunza River and created a natural dam with a rapidly rising water level. The continuous rising of water till June resulted in a lake called “Attabad Lake”, which is 21 km long and 100 meters in depth. It has a worth-seeing turquoise blue water, which becomes a natural attraction for visitors. Attabad Lake offers many water sports like fishing, boat rides, water skiing, etc. The best month to visit this place is April to November because the lake remains frozen during extreme winter.

Hussaini Suspension Bridge

It is a man-made bridge in Hussaini village on the Hunza river with the help of the local community. It is considered the world’s second longest and most thrilling hanging bridge in Hunza, the first being probably in Canada. It is 100 ft from the river and about 660 ft. in length. It has become the most dangerous bridge due to the large gap between its wooden planks and intense from the centre due to its weight. That is why, only seven people are allowed at a time. It is a connection between two villages, Hussaini village and Zar Abad village( behind the dangerous hills), used by locals. Tourists have to pay 300 rupees for a ticket. But now it has been sealed after a tourist fell to death as there are no security measures.

Altit fort

A 1000-year-old monument called Altit fort also named Khabasi Residence. It is located an 18-20 minute drive from Hunza Valley and is accessible via Madal Gan and Sultan Abad roads. Indirectly it can be reached by Karakoram Highway. It showcases the traces of ancient life for visitors. There is an 1100 years old tower of the fort, which is Shikari tower. It is a main attraction for viewers because it gives a classy view of the surroundings. The locals are humble and down-to-earth people. They can speak English and Urdu, both languages which can make communication easy for visitors.

Baltit fort/Karimabad

Baltit fort was the state capital of Hunza once, near Karimabad. It is a 700 years old monument inhabited by the Mir rulers until 1945. It is an artificially flattened surface just below Ultar Glacier and in the middle of the Karakoram mountain ranges. It has become the best place to visit in Hunza after its restoration by Agha Khan in 1990. It gives a panoramic view of a village because it is a three-story building standing on a rock. Baltit fort was nominated for World Heritage status in 2004.

Passu Glacier

Pass is a well-known tourist site in upper Hunza, situated on the north side of Hunza valley and the south side of Passu village. It is linked with the Batura glacier and many other glaciers in the Batura Muztag mountain range. It is a very worth-seeing place and easily accessible when you go to Khunjrab pass through Karakoram Highways. Its elevation is around 7,478 meters. The other names of Passu Glaciers are Passu cones and Passu Sar Peak. Passu Glacier is also called Hot Mountain, as the snow doesn’t sit long on top of its cone or pyramid-like structure.
